Piano Testimonials

I have thoroughly enjoyed my first 6 months of Piano lessons with Jon, He creates a friendly but focussed atmosphere in his well-equipped central London studio.

Jon has developed a syllabus of learning that involves theory, exercises, scales and pieces. He will customise each of these parts depending on your ability level, and the pace at which you are progressing.

He certainly pushes you to be the best you can be with lots of homework, personally I have found the whole experience both fun and challenging.

He’s expanded my horizons in terms of the genre of music that I thought I wanted to play, and has relayed his understanding of music through the ages to me. He is happy for me to have input into the path lessons take, and we have open and honest conversations of the progress I am making (or not!) in different areas (Be that hand synchronisation, theory, dynamics, technique etc.).

One of the best things I find is his determination to correct basic errors from the beginning, the practice of correcting each bar/exercise/scale before moving on has led to clear improvements in my playing.

Above all though, Jon is a friendly and approachable teacher, whose commitment to improving his own playing truly rubs off in the lessons. He also makes a delightful cup of tea, and has a good story or two up his sleeve!

I was very happy to find Jonathan as a piano teacher for myself. He works hard to engage me in the subject and tailors the lessons for my individual needs, making sure I make progress whilst still enjoying playing music. I cannot recommend him enough, as a fantastic teacher that will push your limits and exceed your own expectations. In addition, Jon has broadened my appreciation of music by introducing me to a wide range of composers and styles.

I was nervous about starting to play piano again after a 20 year break, but Jonathan’s encouragement, enthusiasm, and thorough tutoring helped me regain my confidence and love for the instrument again! The work we do together is just difficult enough to keep my progress consistent, with a good mix of technical training and theory. Jonathan is very knowledgable, calm, and patient and I would recommend him without hesitation.

With a background in classical guitar, I wanted to learn piano as quickly as possible but properly, without cutting corners.  Jon has really fit the bill, with a combination of enough technical exercises and theory to ensure the fundamentals, but with very a clear emphasis on playing real pieces and getting enjoyment from the music as soon as possible.

Jon is patient as well as expert and clearly passionate about what he does, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to any aspiring pianist.

Before meeting Jon, I had piano lessons for a year and was not progressing at all. I was a complete beginner in my 30s, who always wanted to play the piano and did not get a chance in my childhood. Apart from having fun during the lessons, Jon pushesd me to the next level. He is focused, patient and passionate about his lessons. After 2 years of lessons with Jon, I passed my grade 1. What an achievement for someone who had no idea about musical notes and scales before! And his tea is the best 🙂
