in my lessons, you will learn the technical exercises to improve your overall technique (scales, arpeggios, and suitable exercises to train your fingers). In addition, you will learn the songs and pieces of your choice – with some suggestions from me. While it goes without saying that it’s important to master the technical aspects of your instrument, the most important thing is to have fun, enjoy playing your instrument, and (hopefully) evolve your artistic sensibility. To this end, the lessons will be adapted to your individual needs and requirements, helping you to improve in areas where you are weak in a fun and friendly manner.
I try to quickly learn the best approach to take for every student and set tasks, goals, and particular areas of practice (that are practically achievable) where I feel my students will benefit the most in order to facilitate their development. Regular weekly lessons afford me the opportunity to assess and critique their progress and suggest modifications as I see fit. I’ve successfully submitted a number of students for ABRSM exams, with each candidate achieving a minimum Pass Grade, and in most cases, either a Merit or a Distinction. I also encourage my students to look beyond ABRSM to the RSL qualifications for a less classical approach, according to their tastes.
